Books
this is the third book made in collaboration with my friend, hugh acheson. released in may 2015, the book is organized by season & by ingredient, and features recipes ranging from the simple to the more complex. it is a great book for those who grow their own vegetables or are part of a csa or are just regulars at the farmers market. we worked on this book for almost 3 years, following the seasons and many farmers through their cycles.
this book is a special book. my old friend rebecca and i had the idea for this book ten years ago...so, i am happy that it is now out in the world. made in collaboration with our friend kristen and based on our online journal, beauty everyday, this book includes 365 photographs- one for each day of the year- that we made in and around athens. we designed the book together, then i did the sequencing and layout and oversaw production. we self-published and have learned *so much* in the process. the book is 9" x 12" and 420 pages, so it is a whopper...i breathed a huge sigh of relief when i was able to finally hold it in my hands.
A Colorful Home released in march of 2015, the culmination of years of collaborating with my good friend susan hable of hable construction. this book explores color through susan's eyes and shares the places she finds inspiration, and how color can be translated into your own life through your home environment. this book features some of my favorite spaces in athens, georgia (and the favorite people who inhabit them). susan and i sequenced this whole book so that each image flows from one to another...showing the color connections that we see when we work together.
a little book made with hugh acheson...it has a unique "swatchbook" design for handy reference...it releases in late march 2014.
book: citizen farmers (spring 2014)
a book to inspire you to grow your own food, or to help your community grow its own food. i really enjoyed this project- i learned so much from spending time with fellow georgian, farmer d. the book releases in spring 2014, just in time for spring gardening!
the first in a series of cookbooks made with author liana krissoff, canning was my first big book project. i learned so much! liana and i have now made 3 cookbooks together.
the second in a series of books with liana krissoff...with a focus on, you guessed it, whole grains...once again, liana's cooking was so inspiring and we had a great shoot at the shotgun house across the street from my studio. this cookbook was a 2013 IACP Book award finalist.
this fifth book by Natalie Chanin and Alabama Chanin was released in 2015. i photographed alot of the images in this book, and a few other photographers contributed to it as well. this was the first time i had photographed a large group all together; natalie had pulled together some of her favorite 'real women' for the final shot of the book...
in 2010, my friend susan and i made a book. she drew and i photographed; each thing we made inspired the other to a response. we conceived these drawings and photos as two-sided posters that could be torn out of the book. we designed the book ourselves and printed and bound it locally, at a press around the corner from my studio. i was able to check in on the production each day which made it extra fun. the binding we used enabled each poster to be easily torn out of the book; some people ended up framing the posters, and some left the book intact. we love that the book is interactive like this. we were proud that this book made it to printed matter in nyc, as well as a handful of some of our favorite shops across the country.
made over the course of three years with chef (and neighbor) hugh acheson, 'a new turn in the south' went on to become the james beard award winner for best american cookbook in 2012.
helping with both art direction and the photography, i enjoyed helping hugh visually articulate his ideas and translate his personality onto the page. we are currently working on our third book together, releasing in spring 2015.
